Step by Step Instructions on Installing Custom Content For Sims 2
1 Firstly go to My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 - If you haven’t got a downloads folder, create one by going to file/new folder. Make sure the D is a capital letter so it should look like this “Downloads”. If you name the folder like this “downloads” your downloads WILL NOT show up in the game.
2 Now in the downloads folder, you can have all of your downloads organised by having separate folders. E.g. in my downloads folder I have the following folders (F. stands for Female and M. stands for Male):
Bags
Careers
Costume Makeup
Dummies
Ear-rings
Eye colour
F.Adult
F.Child
F.Elderly
F.Teen
F.Tod
F.Young Adult
Facial Hair
Fingernails
Floors
Food
Glasses
Hacks
Hair
M.Adult
M.Child
M.Teen
M.Tod
M.Young Adult
Make up
Meshes
Necklaces
New Objects
Objects Recolours
Rings
Roofs
Scarves
Skin Tones
Walls
Wrist
3 Now you are ready to download. Go to a Sims 2 website and start downloading. I normally create a new folder (by going to file/new folder) in My Documents called “downloads for Sims 2”. Then I download all my files into this folder. In this folder you’ll also need to create the same folders you have in your downloads folder in the Sims 2 game. This will make it easier for you to keep everything organised and for you just to copy and paste the files into the right folder in your Sims game.
4 You will need to download both Winzip and Winrar if you haven’t already got them installed on your computer. You can use both for free and can be downloaded here:

Save the exe files somewhere on your computer (my documents will b ok) and then double click on the exe files to install the programs onto your computer.
1 Now you have both programs installed, you will notice that your downloads will either have a zip symbol for Winzip or a rar symbol for Winrar. Go to the downloads folder that you created in My Documents and where you installed all of your downloads. Now open your first folder and highlight all the files by clicking on the first file and then press the “shift” key on your keyboard (the button with the up arrow on and is above the “ctrl” key) and then click on the last folder. Now let go of the “shift” button and now right click on the last file and choose extract here. If some of the files have files repeated (these are normally found if you have downloaded more than 1 file from the same site) you will get a message asking if you want to overwrite? Click on the “yes to all” button. Now whilst you have all the zip/rar files highlighted, click on the “delete” button on your keyboard and send the files to the recycle bin.
2 Now you will be left with all the Sims 2 files which will end in .package these are called “package” files. You may also have pictures and notepad files saying read me. Unless you have installed a hack, you can delete the pictures and notepad files so you are left with the .package files. Now highlight all these package files the same way you did before by clicking on the first file then keep you finger on the “shift” button and click on the last file. Now go to edit then copy.
3 Now minimise that window and go to My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Downloads and then open the folder you are working with and then go to edit and paste. This will remove the files from the other folder and place them into your Sims 2 folder. Repeat the process for the rest of the files you have downloaded.
4 To install lots is different to installing other custom content. Firstly extract the Winzip or Winrar file and then you will notice you have a Sims 2 file and not a package file like the other custom content. Now with lots I use Sims 2 Pack Clean Installer as sometimes when you download lots, you are also installing the user’s hacks and other custom content. Hacks you need to be careful with, so by using Sims 2 Pack Clean Installer instead of the Sims 2 installer, you can select what to install into your game. You can download the Sims 2 Pack Clean Installer from here http://sims2pack.modthesims2.com/ Once you have installed this program you will notice your lots files change from the Sims 2 logo to the Sims 2 pack Clean Installer logo. These files have to be installed one by one. Double click on the first file and this will open the clean installer. You will also be able to see everything that is included in the file. If any of these are highlighted red, click on the box with a tick in it to un tick the box as these are hacks. This means that you won’t install the hacks and they won’t cause problems in your game. If you just want the lots and no other custom content from the user that is used in the lots, un tick all of the boxes apart from the first file. Now you’re ready to install. So click on the install button and then leave the tick where it says default installation. The pathname should read My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Teleport. Now click on the install button. This will automatically install the lots into the teleport folder in your game. Now you can close the Sims 2 Pack Clean Installer and repeat the same process with the other houses.
5 When in the Sims 2 game the lots you have downloaded should appear. Now when you end the game and go to My Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2/Teleport, that folder should now be empty. This is because the files will have been moved by the Sims 2 game when you started the Sims 2.
6 That’s it, all your custom content should now appear in the game. Depending on your computer specification will depend on how much custom content your game can handle
